Gulliver's Travels (1939)

  1. I don't really like Gulliver's Travels...I read the book, I've seen the movies...it's supposed to be some kind of political satire I know I know and I'm supposed to think that is awesome, but instead I find myself falling asleep. I don't think it's funny and I don't like fully extended metaphors...or in this case "satire" I guess. it it an overused, dull literary convention. I'm sure Jonathan Swift had a time and a place but as for me in 2010, not really a connection happening here.
The Fleischer version, which I've seen multiple times, is entertaining because the liliputians are half munchkin half popeye, but even that gets kind of dull...are smurfs liliputians? Is that a satire too? Smurf punx!
